Summary
The Browse List of Users area of the platform allows you to view, search and manage user accounts on the platform. This guide will walk you through accessing this area, utilising its features, and performing common user management tasks.
How To:
Step 1 - Navigate
To access the Browse List of Users area, you'll need to be signed in as a Site Administrator and go to:
Site administration > Users > Accounts > Browse list of users
Step 2 - Utilising Filters for Search
With Moodle's latest update, the Browse List of Users area has been improved for search, implementing a more straightforward filtering tool to allow you to quickly search for users.
To add or amend the current filter, simply click on the "Filters" button in the top right, this will then open a menu of different profile fields which you can use.
For instance, if we wanted to search for a specific user account by name, we can select the drop-down menu for the Full Name field, then select the relevant option to refine the search, in this case we'll use "Is Equal To" as we know the exact value we are looking for, then we'll enter that value in the text box next to it. Finally, click Apply to apply this search filter and view the list of users that match that criteria.
When adding filters, you'll find all of the Moodle default profile field options at the top of the filters list and any custom profile fields your organisation has added will appear further down the list.
Step 3 - Sort User Information
You can sort the users that appear in the list, this allows you to quickly re-organise the user list based on your requirements, to do this, simply click on any column heading in the user table (e.g. first name, last name, email address) to sort the list alphabetically or numerically.
To reverse the order, click the same heading and this will reverse the sorting order of the users.
Step 4 - Quick User Actions
From the Browse List of Users area, you can perform quick user actions for any users displayed in the list.
To do this, click the 3 dots to the right of the users profile in the list, then select one of the following options:
- Edit - this will take you to the user profile where you can edit their details and access other key insights. Further guidance on this area is covered in the following guide: How to Navigate the User Profile Page
- Suspend user account - this is a reversable action, temporarily preventing the user from accessing the platform. All of their data remains in tact.
- Delete - This is not a reversible action as it permanently deletes the users account and all associated data.
Step 5 - Selecting and Downloading Users
On the Browse List of Users page you can also download a list of the the users currently displayed. In order to do this just select one or more users using the checkbox to the left of their name, or click the checkbox for the column to select all users in the list.
Then scroll down to the bottom of the user table, select your download format and click Download.
