How to Add a Block to Your Dashboard

Summary

The dashboard page on your platform is designed to be the home of all users learning pathways. This guide will show you how to edit the dashboard and add a new block to this page.

Step 1 - Navigate

In order to edit the dashboard page for all of your users on the platform and not just yourself, you’ll need to go to the following page whilst logged in as a site administrator:

Site Administration > Appearance > Default dashboard page

Step 2 - Adding a block

With the default dashboard page open, you’ll now see the dashboard page as it appears to all users.

To edit the default dashboard page, enable “Edit mode” using the toggle in the top right corner of the page.

This will then display a “Add a block” button at the top of the page. Once clicked, you’ll be shown an extensive list of different block types to choose from, as shown in the screenshot below:

You can then select the block type you require in order to add this to your dashboard page.

Once the new block has been added you’ll see this added to the bottom of the dashboard page. In the example below, we’ve added a “Text” block to the page.

In order to then configure and make changes to this new block, you need to click on the settings “cog” and then select “configure text block”. This will open a new page, as shown below, where you can make the required changes to your new block.

You can edit the positioning of blocks within your dashboard page by using the drag and drop arrows to the left of the settings “cog” and dragging the block into its required position.

Once you have made the required changes to the dashboard page of your site you can click the “Reset dashboard for all users” button in order to save these changes and display the updated dashboard page for all users on your site.
